ABSTRACT

This part conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the key concepts discussed in the preceding chapters. The part argues that Jurgen Schrempp the CEO of Daimler–who had been very slow to respond to allegations about the safety of the car and publicly criticised for his silence–apologised nationally. The world of the 1990s was less globalised, less digitised and slower moving with fewer new paradigms based on aggressive disruptors. Back then, a passive approach to resilience, with some notable exceptions in the textbooks, may have been adaptive in its own way. Resilience-type systems in the contexts can be a response to the application of one, or more, industry Standards. Examination of the relationship between resilience-type systems and industry Standards shows that the latter are not the silver bullet argument that, in isolation, their comprehensive authoring processes might lead to expect.
