ABSTRACT
One cannot help but be impressed with the translations of Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde published in Brazil, not only because there is a great number of them, but also because the publishers were very creative when dealing with Stevenson's text. Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde was first published in London in 1886. Translations published as comics which reproduce the original story of Jekyll and Hyde in the Brazilian publishing market circulate side by side with comics in which Jekyll and Hyde are characters from other stories, or other characters (such as Goofy and Mickey) are the 'physician' and/or the 'monster'. In 1971, Editora Tecnoprint launched two editions that contained the very same translation by Marques Rebelo. The Hedra publishing house has published, for two consecutive years, the same translation in two quite different books.
