ABSTRACT

98This house is in the outer suburb of Black Rock, 20 kilometres south of Melbourne’s city. It occupies a corner site located along the west edge of Black Rock’s coastline, within the built band that stretches along the coastal road, separating the house from the spectacular environment of its surroundings, including the vegetated cliffs that slope down to Half Moon Bay. Despite these highly scenic site conditions, the house resists the obvious call for a view and avoids raising and imposing its volumes, choosing instead to be discretely hidden within its own allotment.
