To sum up, the campaign to promote plainchant and Renaissance polyphony spearheaded by TLS produced only mixed success. Nevertheless, its achievements and limitations throw light on the nature of Catholic musical culture and the environment in which it operated. At its heart lies the difference between the vision of what was supposed to be happening, and the actual reality on the ground.
