ABSTRACT

This chapter surveys key bi and multilateral actors involved in Nordic-Russian cooperation in the field of renewable energy. It outlines the forms of cooperation taking place in the areas of research and innovation on renewable energy, environmental studies, hydrogen, climate change and energy efficiency, albeit with a clear focus on renewable energy. The chapter focuses mostly on multilateral actors, as the current tendency is for countries to shift gradually from bilateral to multilateral cooperation and It presents the interwoven nature of various Nordic cooperative initiatives towards Russia. It shows that actors seeking to engage in renewable energy partnership with Russian partners should not let the geographical or technological biases of their home country decide the focus of the collaborative ventures. Post-Soviet business culture was shaped by the collapse of the Soviet Union not only as a communist state but also as a moral and cultural system.
