ABSTRACT

This chapter deals with the subjective experiences of ten people who have cooperated with Russian actors on renewable energy projects. Norwegian Wind Energy is a consultancy and project company which aims to establish renewable energy production at suitable sites in Norway and abroad. The company has more than 10 years of experience in working with issues concerning wind power, and is also the biggest shareholder in the Norwegian-Russian joint venture VetroEnergo. The main findings from the ten interviews are that perceived opportunities for cooperation are mostly related to Russia's natural resources, mainly hydro, wind and bioenergy. According to Hjelm, the differences between Russian and Nordic business cultures are especially apparent in decision-making processes, during the process of business development, and in client-supplier relations. Rosnor is a Norwegian-Russian joint venture working with Russian power companies with plans to develop hydropower plants and other renewable energy projects.
