ABSTRACT

If manufacturers do not produce machinery that is inherently safe the consequences are grave, and measured in fatalities, injuries and illness (AWCBC, 2012; Driscoll, et al., 2008; European Commission, 2008; Fitzharris, et al., 2011; Harris and Current, 2012; Safe Work Australia, 2009; 2011; 2013a). With this in mind, the empirical evidence from this research underscores the need to lay down firm foundations for both regulatory policy and industry practice for safety in machinery design and construction.
