ABSTRACT

The lyrics to the song can be readily found on the Internet indeed, on Amy Macdonald's own site. The streets of the video are clearly inhabited and in an urban British location, and yet Amy's audience is only the camera. In the autumn of 2010, if we were watching British commercial television, we would be highly likely to have seen advertisements for the new Fiat 500 TwinAir. In terms of lyrics, this delivery begins with emptiness moving towards signs of inhabitation. The word 'confrontational' to describe the presence of the entire soundscape this guitar certainly meets me face-to-face, implying that it's not simply a distant bystander. Amy encourages me not to, in the swift juxtaposition of pleasure and distaste which, as the harmonic loop tells me, is an inevitable succession. In some musics, it would be the harmonic details which carry the drama.
