ABSTRACT

This chapter provides a tool that helps one to ensure that their strategy is leading them towards their ambition, and that ambition and route is captured appropriately in their strategy map. This involves building a rich, tangible picture of the future across which one will navigate with their strategy. The tangible future has three benefits. First, the tangible future provides the basis for the level of ambition and rate of change of the objectives across all the perspectives of the strategy map. Secondly, the tangible future exposes the thinking about the future amongst the management team and encourages discussion within the team of different views. The third benefit of a tangible future is to capture uncertainties, risks and assumptions about the future. The overall relationship between the tangible vision and the strategy map was established in the strategic learning model: the tangible future describes how the future will evolve; the strategy map describes how it will be achieved.
