ABSTRACT

Indian democracy has supported an open and vibrant society. Democracies are likely to experience larger number but less extremely violent protests than authoritarian states. Hence, there is greater probability for the occurrence of a higher number of protests and its positive outcomes in the democratic system in comparison to other ones. However, India's democratic political system cannot take credit for bringing this impressive economic growth in recent years. All sectors of the economy are contributing to the growth rate, although we are not entirely satisfied with the performance of the agriculture sector. A closer look of the state of state run educational institutions can provide some idea about the other institutions assigned with the social sector. It is not only the educational institutions. Other public institutions like the judiciary and law enforcement agencies have failed to evolve with the changing social and economic circumstances of the country.
