ABSTRACT

The sources for requirements for the development of a new, derivative, or changebased aircraft design fall into two primary categories: regulatory and economic. Regulatory requirements are those which pertain to the safety of the aircraft and its occupants and are established by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and documented in Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs). Economic requirements are those driven by the airline customer and pertain to the cost of purchasing, operating, maintaining, and servicing the aircraft. The SE process accommodates both categories of requirements.
