ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book presents an evidence, which shows show that for the bulk of Ghanaian immigrants, the enduring legacy and theme in their individual and collective transnational diasporic experiences has been the creation of an identity that is distinctively black, African, and yet global. It attempts to map out strategies for macro-contextualizing international migration in Ghana. In documenting the contours of the Ghanaian diaspora and its implication to the development of migration theory, a number of methodological issues come to the fore. A case study approach to the study of the Ghanaian diaspora has the potential to offer scholarly insights into the complex processes involved in the transnational migratory behavior of Ghanaians. The transatlantic immigrant experiences of the Ghanaians living in the USA and the UK present opportunities and challenges to sociological theories of ethnic immigrant and diaspora communities in the West.
