ABSTRACT

Travelling along the coast after passing the Cape of Good Hope in the direction of India as far as that of Sam Sabastiam there are certain fair lands with many hills and open plains wherein are numerous herds of cows in abundance, sheep and other wild cattle. In the sea which lies in front of the places such as Mocambique and Quiloa is a very large island called Sam Lourenco inhabited within by Heathen and in the seaports by Moors, who hold many towns there. This island has many kings, both Moors and Heathen: in it there is great store of flesh-meat, rice, millet, oranges and lemons. The actual island on which stands the city of Ormus is between the coasts of Arabia and Persia, at the mouth of the Persian Sea, and within this sea are scattered many isles pertaining to the same King of Ormus and under his governance.
