ABSTRACT

This book discusses the carless households can face marginalisation as the trend towards car dependence continues. It also became clear that poorer households may be faced with higher transport costs. And electricity in car mobility will find its boundaries in the non-availability of enough carbon neutral renewable energy to derive electricity from. Many leaders in the debate on the future of car mobility believe that with very much more energy efficiency, with fast introduction of the newest IT-related vehicle technology and with a speedy shift towards electric driving we will be able to stay out of ugly problems with fossil fuels, we will be able to reach objectives on global warming, and we will be able to keep driving in a more modern and more sustainable way. In 2009 Shell introduced the Shell PKW Szenarien bis 2030 for Germany. Mobility policy with its capacity or infrastructure orientation is essentially policy for the huge middle classes in our Western European societies.
