ABSTRACT

This chapter presents a relatively exhaustive image of the concept/relevance and the reality/significance in the hybrid war. It discusses two distinct special cases that can be brought under the cloak of the hybrid war: the case of the Islamic State and Ukrainian hybrid war, with both its elements of implementation in Crimea and in Eastern Ukraine. In William J. Nemeth's thesis, the 'hybrid' fusion between religion, society and modernization, namely technology in the hybrid society results in the postulation of hybrid war/conflict. In his thesis there are recommendations for the modern armed forces about how they should adjust in order to successfully counteract this type of hybrid conflict. Hybrid warfare succeeded without a single shot fired, also due to, as we can see today, despite rigged participation and results in the so-called referendum, the majority of the Crimean population, accepting, if not supporting, the annexation of the territory.
