ABSTRACT

With the rapid spread of globalization, food safety governance has become a global issue, and has finally been recognized as a serious problem which must be dealt with by the international community working in unison. Recently food safety has become one of the most hotly debated issues arising from Japan’s participation in the TPP (Trans-Pacific Partnership) negotiations, and the EU–Japan talks on an EPA (Economic Partnership Agreement). For Europe and Japan, the many stakeholders involved means it is necessary to consider the issue from the viewpoint of public health and consumer protection as well as economic interests.
