ABSTRACT

This chapter explores how the Leadership Team actively worked to draw upon both the unique blend, as well as common corporate American practices, to ensure an institutional habitus was "stable" at all times. It highlights how Achievement Academy staff are subject to institutional "norming" through a variety of approaches in line with the unique blend which underpins the model of schooling in a Charter School Management Organization (CMO). The chapter discusses attention to how narratives of heroism, as part of the unique blend, work as a rationale for the everyday lived practices of both leaders and teachers. At the CMO, the Leadership Team invested tremendous time and energy in composing emails which were designed to be inspirational and directive. Leadership will be ensuring team excellence in and around classroom management and school culture. CMOs pride themselves on inverting the bureaucratic practices of regular public education and being innovative.
