Arab Unity Ideologically, regional Arab politics have been concerned with the problem of Arab unity. Closely linked to this has been a collective position towards Israel. Theoretically the two issues are interrelated, but practically, quite separate. They are moreover superimposed as a convenient gloss over the problem of the relations between Arab states, governments, leaders and regimes. Since the fifties, regional Arab politics have been concerned with the relationship of Arab states to outside powers, and by extension their position in the Cold War between the superpowers.
