ABSTRACT

The future development of energy resources is a highly strategic issue for China in light of the country’s goal to realize a moderately prosperous society for all.

Demand for energy is expected to grow dramatically in line with China’s ongoing rapid economic growth and the improvement in people’s standard of living. To meet this demand, not only do we need to make use of a comprehensive range of energy resources, including oil, natural gas, coal, hydropower, wind energy, and nuclear power, but we need to encourage enterprises under a diverse range of ownership systems to participate in energy development. We must use marketoriented measures to improve supply and increase efficiencies, while also meeting our goals for socio-economic development and environmental protection.
