ABSTRACT
This book is dedicated to all my students, with the hope of introducing you to the intricate array of subjects concerning the socio-economic development of societies. The experience of spending my childhood under a dysfunctional and oppressive regime helped me realize what it means to be denied any hope of future prospects. Only later did I discover that my situation paled in comparison with the acute poverty and inequality that persists in the world. When writing the book, I constantly worried whether I would be able to address the complexity of the field called development. I know that given the constraints of space and time many themes are missing and many issues are not dealt with in a proper depth. It will be up to you to explore them further.
