ABSTRACT

The question addressed in the previous three chapters was: How much climate mitigation do we owe future generations? This question is embedded in the more general question: What do we owe to future generations as such? In the light of the various arguments and intuitions, at least the suffi ciency requirement seemed to be justifi ed. The suffi ciency requirement-namely, on the present conception, the requirement to protect the human rights of future generations-can be understood either as an alternative to the equality requirement or as its most important component.
