ABSTRACT

It makes sense in more ways than one for a society and its state-apparatus to try to define some commonalities in public morality and national identity. First of all this is of course done in order to strengthen the fabric of social and national cohesion, while also being a remedy against perceived social ills and shortcomings in the human capital. But also on other levels, it makes sense, and in reality, without a certain level of sharing in a society, morality and a moral vocabulary can make no sense.
