ABSTRACT

One of the intangible qualities that occur during a recording session is the "vibe" of the recording. Vibe is that underlying feeling that exists with the music and the people surrounding it. There are two areas where opinions can be offered: the technical and the creative. Artists can often feel insecure. Some vocalists perform better with a small audience in the studio: friends, family, band members, and fans. Communication skills are key to being a successful recording engineer. Since communication skills often involve verbal cues, it will be helpful to have a vocabulary that musicians and other engineers understand. Recognizing song structure is a common area where communication skills are necessary. Body language is the non-verbal way in which we communicate. Good scheduling, time management, and organizational skills can help a session run smoothly. Playing in a band can also help you meet other musicians and bands.
