ABSTRACT
The Kampala Convention contains 23 articles. The first three articles deal with definitions of terms, objectives of the Convention and state obligations respectively. Article 4 stipulates for protection from internal displacement. Article 5 deals with obligations of state parties with respect to protection and assistance. Article 9 discusses the obligation of states during displacement. States’ responsibility in the context of seeking durable solutions is elaborated under Article 11. Specific issues involving compensation, reparations, documentation and registration of IDPs are covered under Articles 12 and 13. Though almost the majority of articles are applicable to all forms of displacement irrespective of their causes, Articles 7 and 10 deal with the specific challenges of displacement generated by armed conflicts and projects respectively.
