ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book examines, in detail, the roots, nature, governmental performance and theoretical and policy implications of Left radicalism in Tripura within the broader regional context of the North East. It provides a broad outline of the regional context of North East India in order to highlight the roots of radical ethnic politics, and the extent of management of ethnic conflict in favour of durable ethnic peace and political order. The book explains why the Left failed in India, and what explains the relative success of the Left in Tripura, and Kerala. The book points out how the shifts in the national and international communist policy produced its effects in Tripura. It shows that Tripura under the Marxists has scaled remarkable height in maintain the rule of law, and delivery of public goods, social inclusion and growth.
