ABSTRACT

As the general manager is revising production budgets, weekly operating budgets, and recoupment schedules, a company manager is hired to manage the daily operation of the production. Once the creators' contracts are settled the general manager has to go about contracting the extended members of the management team: company manager, publicity agent, stage manager, and other such creative types as needed. Company managers on Broadway are members of Association of Theatrical Press Agents and Managers (ATPAM). Applying the production axiom to a thorough reading of the play, the general manager will need to ascertain the Five Key Elements namely: Who, What, Where, When, Why (How). With the general manager in place, the hiring and contracting of all production personnel is the next order of business. As much as profit is the driving force behind a commercial production, monetary gains from ancillary means such as merchandising also benefits not-for-profit productions.
