ABSTRACT

Footage may come to a compositor in a distressed state and suffering from such artifacts as dust, scratches, grain, or noise. You can use noise-reduction techniques, along with Fusion’s Paint tool, to apply “fixes” to the footage. At other times, it’s necessary to add artifacts to footage that is artifact-free. This may be necessary to match non-distressed renders to distressed footage. This may also be useful for creating a stylized look that emulates old or low-quality media. This chapter includes the following critical information:

Removing noise and grain

Adding grain, noise, interlacing, and ghosting

Removing dust and dirt with the Paint tool

Removing scratches with the Wire removal mode
