ABSTRACT

This chapter analyses how sports performance analysis dissertations are written up. This is a critically important process that should not be neglected by students. The dissertation report needs to do justice to the research activity that has been done. The chapter covers the contents of the various chapters to be included in different types of sports performance analysis dissertation. The standard introduction, literature review, methods, results, discussion and conclusions chapters that would be included within scientific research projects are discussed. These chapters are also used within enterprise projects, with methods and results being more about what was done and found in a market research study than in a scientific research study. These chapters would also be included with MSc dissertations, with the difference being that they are describing master’s-level research rather than undergraduate-level research. The contents of requirements, specification, design, implementation, testing and evaluation chapters that would be seen in development projects are also discussed. This chapter also covers other forms of research presentation, such as PhD theses, journal articles and conference presentations. However, research proposals are not included because they have already been covered in Chapter 5 of the current book. General guidance on presentation and producing tables, figures, charts and appendices is also provided in the current chapter.
