ABSTRACT

The main aim of this book has been to understand the dynamics of family language policies within a range of multilingual polities in order to ref lect on how family language policies are constantly negotiated, contested, endorsed, and finally shaped by various factors, factors that are both external and internal to the domain of home. This concluding chapter draws out some of the implications for family language policy of the scenarios described and analyzed by contributors to this book. In particular, we explore how language ecologies in which families are positioned inf luence family members’ language ideologies and practices.
