ABSTRACT

This chapter is an introduction to the complex world of anti/critical psychiatry organising. Major movements involved in the network and which, as such, are highlighted are antipsychiatry, the mad movement and the psychiatric survivor movement. The author carefully demonstrates that, both theoretically and practically, the movement(s) to end or rein in psychiatry are intrinsically anarchistic – that is, they at once place the state in question, challenge sanism and invite a different style of organising. Correspondingly, not only new style anarchism but classical anarchism emerges as pivotal.
