ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses structures that support teachers, students, families, and leaders as they work to improve the rigor of their school. Creating a professional learning community (PLC) is common in many schools. It is one way to work collaboratively to improve the rigor of your school and your classrooms. Regardless of the way you provide time for collaboration, the most important thing is how you use the time. It is important that it be productive and supports your vision of improved rigor. Your school's schedule is a powerful tool to improve rigor and provide teachers with the tools they need to implement your shared vision of a more rigorous school. Leaders also need support. It is essential for leaders to have take time to reflect on their own work, process their own learning, and consider how they can refine what they are doing to improve the rigor of their school.
