ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the key concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book offers future directions for institutional practitioners and researchers. It presents recommendations for Black women college students themselves and students who do not identify as Black women but who desire to be allies of their Black women peers. The book provides a snapshot of the contributions and experiences of Black women in higher education over time and highlights some of the statistics and issues regarding this group of students. It reviews the relevant literature on Black women college students with special attention to challenges they face. The book looks at various theoretical frameworks and philosophies employed in understanding and studying Black women in general and Black women students specifically and focus on institutional responsibility for Black women college student success. Supporting Black women college students in research and practice across all levels of American colleges and universities is a modern-day imperative.
