ABSTRACT

The analysis of global issues is essential for understanding the context of the world where people are living in. This chapter gives insights into the world as it was, as it is, and as it will be. The meaning of one planet for each individual can be estimated using population density statistics. The United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs Population Division gives forecasts of population increase through to year 2050. According to the UK Energy Research Centre (UKERC), production of crude oil will have passed its peak by year 2031 and the subsequent two decades will see a 'terminal decline' in the global oil production. This will need to be replaced by renewable resources if global energy demand is to continue on its upward trend. Global winds are driven by temperature differences and corresponding densities of air.
