ABSTRACT

The industry rarely changed; neither did the job descriptions of its employees. Reporters could take comfort in operating under a consistent routine, responsible daily for putting together a single story or two for a specific set of newscasts. Many veteran reporters I know speak longingly of the days when they could be confident in the longevity of their positions.
