ABSTRACT

My fascination with renewable energy started as a young boy, during school holidays, when my father would take me to rural areas of Nepal to oversee biogas plants being installed. Dr Amrit Bahadur Karki was a microbiologist and soil scientist assigned in those days by the government to promote household biogas plants in the country; and for his efforts he is now recognised as the ‘Father of Biogas in Nepal’. With this imprint of rural development, and after completing my engineering studies, hydropower and specifically small and micro hydropower became the obvious professional choice I gravitated towards.
