ABSTRACT

This chapter explores differences and similarities with the aim to discuss meeting points of the two in the contemporary and geographically focused context of Norway. In order to support the creation of social enterprises within Norway, research communities and political institutions put emphasis on clearly defining social entrepreneurship. Designers are experiencing a growing demand from public sector and non-profit organizations that recruit designers for the purpose of solving social challenges through design. The chapter examines the convergences and divergences between social entrepreneurs and social designers. This contribution will be useful both to policy makers and researchers in both the design and social entrepreneur fields. The chapter highlights areas for improvement and partnership, and analysis definition of the social entrepreneur in Norway by seeking to draw a boundary between social entrepreneurship and the related field of social design. The designer moves towards a role as social innovator or entrepreneur due to demand and strengths of empathic approaches within the demand change.
