ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on key concepts covered in the book. The book discusses the multifaceted nature of hybridity in social life and institutional organising. It focuses on the area between the public and private sectors, between government agencies and private enterprises. The book finds out what the space is in between private enterprise and government action, which is signified by the notion of hybrids, hybridity, hybrid action, and hybrid governance. It introduces analytical distinctions defining features and properties of hybridity in regard to public and private sector organisations and activities. The book demonstrates that hybridity becomes more important when dealing with the governance of important societal activities and functions, such as infrastructure, energy, health, education, and the well-being of our physical environment. Hybrid forms of governance are a way to understand attempts by organisations and regulators to avoid uncertainty in their fundamental choices.
