ABSTRACT

Rock concerts are very much a part of the life of young people in the United States. The risk of injury and death is present at almost all large, sold-out rock concerts because of the potential for crowd crushes. Structural conduciveness describes the parameters and constraints for the other components of the model, particularly structural strain. Photographs can be used to provide clues about the reactions of the fans. Police documents are helpful in informing a researcher about the amount and location of officers, how many arrests were made, and the types of violence that occurred. The differential setting sets the condition where rock concert fans make decisions about the event independently of other factors such as family, work, religion, or other recreational activities. Neil J. Smelser's model indicates that strain is ambiguous as defined by the presence of uncertainty. A ticket not only serves as the medium of exchange for access but is also a variable of social control.
