ABSTRACT

There are a number of ways that you can conduct pre-session phone calls, but perhaps the best way in my experience is for you to do so while referring to a checklist of topics that you have already prepared. As you prepare your checklist of topics, it is important that you are mindful of the purpose of the pre-session phone call. First, if you have remaining doubts that the person is suitable for SSI-CBT, it is important that you begin the phone call by addressing such doubts and these should be represented on your checklist. Once you and your client have agreed that the latter will go forward with SSI-CBT, then the items on your checklist should be designed to help you to assist the client to get the most out of the process as possible. I can explain this best by comparing a handheld juicer (see Figure 19.1 ) with a professional blender (see Figure 19.2 ).
