ABSTRACT
This chapter focuses on the disjuncture revealed in the proceeding chapters between the top-down responses to forced migration with the bottom-up realities of the lived experiences of those who have been displaced. It shows the discrepancies between the realities of forced migrants and the language, legal frameworks and the strategies that continue to be adopted. The chapter considers the ways in which precarity is now the norm. Looking forward we place emphasis on the need to take an intersectional approach, to consider methodologies and research sites that better reflect the realities of forced migration in the 21st century.
