Why critical forced migration studies has to be post-colonial by nature

This chapter explores the consequences of the colonial legacy within the post-colonial context of South Asia. To understand contemporary displacement it is crucial to consider the ways in which colonial administrations used race and racialisation to create differences and create conflict. These conflicts, with their roots in 18th-century British colonial rule, have resulted in the nationalised histories of partition. This chapter outlines the evolution of the field of study through a post-colonial lens and considers how the past dictates current thinking and responses to displacement in South Asia.
