ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on Active Citizenship to collect data from persons who had some experience of being active citizens. The report form asked for key findings related to Active Citizenship. The report form also invited the researchers to provide an initial analysis of whether changes in the life course resulted from the interviewee's individual agency, external conditions or a mixture of both. The interview data has provided information about some of the main types of relations between persons with disabilities and society at large. The life-course interviews have provided insights into the policies, social institutions and cultural assumptions that shape the experiences of people with disabilities. The life-course interviews have also provided insights into the diverse experiences of disability, contributing to a better understanding of why and how these experiences take different forms in different context. The chapter describes about recruiting interviewees through self-help groups, self-help activities and organisations of and for persons with disabilities.
