ABSTRACT
Rodgers was a railroad brakeman from Mississippi and made his first record in 1927. But his career was short: he died of tuberculosis only six years later. Though he was white and sang country music, his songs showed a strong black blues influence. His impact on musicians after him has been so great that he is often called ‘the father of country music’.
