ABSTRACT
While much is known about the impact of a mother’s incarceration on her family and children, far less is known about the impact of children on mother’s experiences during incarceration and reentry. In this chapter, I introduce the concept of desistance from criminal behavior, and the ways in which it happens in women’s lives, with a particular focus on the role of children.
