ABSTRACT

This chapter looks at some of the terminology used when talking about online audiences. A forum is simply a place where reader can group conversations and allow users to respond to each other. Most support areas on websites are forums. Benchmark bounce rates are different depending on what kind of website it is; for example, for an ecommerce site where a visitor goes to buy something, the benchmark bounce rate in 2017 was around 33%. However, on a news site where content is the driver, the benchmark bounce rate was between 40% and 60%. Google launched its web analytical application in 2005 and since then it has pretty much dominated the market for tracking and reporting website traffic. The system that most commercial themes offering integrated forum areas use is BuddyPress. The plugins are going to be particularly useful if reader run a multisite with a number of admins and a number of subdomains.
