ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on a case study with an elite Swedish golfer, conducted by a student-consultant Lukas Linner during his first year in the applied sport psychology (ASP) advanced-level course at Halmstad University under the supervision of the Natalia Stambulova and Urban Johnson. It outlines the specific context of ASP education and supervision as well as with reflections of both the supervisee and supervisors on the process and outcomes of this case study. Lukas was acquainted with his client during a previous golf research project, and they bonded through mutual experiences of professional golf. Client-centered approach, theory-driven practice, holistic developmental perspective, ethical work, positive psychology, and humanistic perspectives are all included in ASP course as underlying criteria for a high-quality ASP intervention. The chapter addresses communication issues and discusses a consultant - client cooperation agreement, including ethical principles that guide the supervised practice.
