ABSTRACT

This chapter analyzes characteristics of the international market for white meat from chicken focusing on competitiveness. It shows the international market and also provides more detailed points of view on the countries of special interest, Denmark, Brazil, Norway, Sri Lanka, and Kuwait. The chapter also analyzes international competitiveness in the global poultry market the following indicators of international competitiveness will be used: Revealed Comparative Advantage Index, Revealed Symmetric Comparative Advantage Index and The Market Share. It presents the methodological procedures of the research. The chapter suggests that increasing returns to scale and product differentiation by firms operating in monopolistic or oligopolistic markets increase competition as they provide consumers with a wider range of products at lower prices.
