The disintegration of his physical and mental powers took place quite gradually. The first signs of disturbed health had already made their appearance in the early nineties; Immanuel Kant describes them as follows in a letter, dated 21st September 1791, to his former listener, K. L. Reinhold: Reinhold, Karl Leonhard, philosopher in Kiel. Made a valuable contribution to the understanding of critical philosophy through his Letters on Kantian Philosophy (1786). The disintegration of his physical and mental powers took place quite gradually. The first signs of disturbed health had already made their appearance in the early nineties; Kant describes them as follows in a letter, dated 21st September 1791, Kant managed to carry on with his activities as teacher and writer for a few more years. Towards the end of the nineties a striking decline in his formerly excellent memory became evident, which made it necessary for him to write down everything he wished to bear in mind on so-called memoranda.
