ABSTRACT
In this chapter, Ann Margaret Sharp argues that intelligent sympathy or compassion is a prerequisite for global ethical consciousness. She explains that compassion requires a critical consciousness that is cognizant of standards, norms, criteria and ideals, and that ethical inquiry is closely tied to aesthetic discrimination and artistic creation that exercise discernment, expression, technique, critical investigation and creativity.
