ABSTRACT

This chapter evaluates the role of the network in establishing and consolidating environmental media management. It introduces the notion of actor-network theory as a methodological basis for evaluating the different power dynamics and forms of influence in consolidating environmental practice in the media industry. Actor-network theory is adapted here due to the emphasis it places on the agency of non-human materials. The concepts of grounded and transactional materialities are introduced to distinguish between anthropocentric and ecocentric forms of control within the media management network. This chapter evaluates these frameworks by conducting a case study of the Environmental Media Association.
